Lucifer's Star Fantasy Playlist

Novel Playlists from Fantasy Novelists treats each fantasy novel like a feature film and encourages the author to put together their own dream soundtrack. And though in space no one can hear you scream, they can certainly hear you sing. So tune in as author C.T. Phipps takes us on a grimdark spacefaring tour de force for his novel Lucifer’s Star:

Cassius Mass was the greatest star pilot of the Crius Archduchy. He fought fiercely for his cause, only to watch his nation fall to the Interstellar Commonwealth. It was only after that he realized the side he'd been fighting for was the wrong one. Now a semi-functional navigator on an interstellar freight hauler, he tries to hide who he was and escape his past. Unfortunately, some things refuse to stay buried and he ends up conscripted by the very people who destroyed his homeland. LUCIFER'S STAR is the first novel of the Lucifer's Star series, a dark science fiction space opera set in a world of aliens, war, politics, and slavery.

Killzone 2 - Helghan Forever "The Archduchy of Crius goes to war" for the Battle of Hoshi's Star. It is meant to symbolize the terrifying power and overconfidence of the Archduchy's forces as they go into the final battle.

Belstrings - Across the Stars "Cassius Loves" - A violin remix of a famous Star Wars track symbolizing Cassius' mourning his dead wife and his developing relationship with Ilsa as they both come clean about their pasts.

Mystifying Melodies - Black and White "The Melampus theme" is meant to be evocative of the ship in space with both the beauty of space as well as the fact everyone onboard is a potential danger.

Escape to Heaven - Thomas Adam Habuda Ida's theme is meant to invoke the saintly and seemingly all wise figure of Ida Claire. It changes during the conversation to become sinister and full of intrigue as she explains her plan to use him against his former associates.

Colossal Trailer Music - Weighted Ground "Space fight" follows Cassius as he proceeds to become a killer once more. It feels less like a rousing battle and more like methodical murder.

Infinity - Onur Tarcin "The Rhea's theme" is meant to be unnerving and spooky but not quite to the point of horror yet.

Nicole's Theme (Dead Space) "Zoe's theme" is far darker yet still noticeably pleasant. Cassius is overjoyed to see her but senses, even if only unconsciously, his sister is responsible for the horrors onboard the ship.

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star (Dead Space version) "Cassius' madness mantra" a song where Clarice sings as she struggles to face her torturer.

Rebirth - Jaye Arcuve "Love or Friendship" is a song about Cassius and Clarice as they struggle with the fact they understand each other's pain but worry about bringing down another with them.

The Leviathan (Dead Space Soundtrack) "The Kriegermonster/The Prison Escape" is an action sequence bid which highlights there's SOMETHING moving along with them.

Dust of Time - SeySey "Judith's Vision" is a song about the discovery the universe is potentially doomed to an endless cycle of seeding, war, molding, and genocide at the hands of the Nobility.

Speed of Light - The Alliance "The Melampus Escape" is a theme about our heroes choosing to escape the war between the Free Systems Alliance and the Commonwealth of Systems rather than kill millions for no reason.

I Ran - Flock of Seagulls (Nighttime Synthwave Synester Remix) "Credits" is a song which highlights our heroes have chosen escape over conflict with a fun upbeat song which also is notably about aliens anyway.
