I Was a Teenage Weredeer Fantasy Playlist

Novel Playlists from Fantasy Novelists treats each fantasy novel like a feature film and encourages the author to put together their own dream soundtrack. Putting the weird back into Weredeer, C. T. Phipps graces us as our first repeat musical aficionado as he reopens the book to his Fangton universe to introduce us to the terrifying world of werebeasts and adolescence with I Was a Teenage Weredeer.

FROM THE BEST SELLING AUTHOR OF THE SUPERVILLAINY SAGA.

Jane Doe is a weredeer, the least-threatening shapechanger species in the world. Blessed with the ability to turn furry at will and psychically read objects, Jane has done her best to live a normal life working as a waitress at the Deerlightful Diner. She has big dreams of escaping life in the supernatural-filled town of Bright Falls, Michigan, and her eighteenth birthday promises the beginning of her teenage dreams coming true.

Unfortunately, her birthday is ruined by the sudden murder of her best friend's sister in an apparent occult killing. Oh, and her brother is the primary suspect. Allying with an eccentric FBI agent, the local crime lord, and a snarky werecrow, Jane has her work cut out for her in turning her big day around.

Thankfully, she's game.

"To All of You" by Syd Matters A song from Life is Strange which nicely reflects the indie rock world of Jane Doe's little universe as well as homages one of her inspirations.

"Shadow" by the Chromantics The song for Jane visiting Victoria's body in the morgue as well as meeting Agent Timmons. It reflects the uncomfortable nature of entering a darker new world for Jane.

"Deer Meadow Shuffle" by Angelo Badalamenti Jane and Emma's relationship in a nutshell as they try to figure out where to go next in their investigation.

"Lucretia My Reflection" by Sisters of Mercy A classic bit of Goth rock being played at Lucien's club as Jane infiltrates the club as a guest.

"Demons" by Imagine Dragons The scene where Jane and Alex are briefly trapped in a hellish landscape and are forced to rely on each other's strength to escape.

"Cherry" by the Chromantics Jane and Emma are traveling to the Preserve as they discuss Victoria and her relationship them.

"Falling" by Julee Cruise A Twin Peaks staple which befits meeting Munin and arriving at the Preserve to investigate Victoria's murder better.

"The Sense of Me" by Mud Flow Jane's nightmare about drowning in the kelpie's mind trap as she experiences her failure to save her baby cousin's life as a child.

"Something just like this" by Coldplay and the Chainsmokers As close to Alex and Jane's love theme as they can get even though both ARE superheroes. The perfect theme for the two reuniting.

"Room of Angel" by Silent Hill 4 (BELOW) Jane experiencing the Big Bad Wolf's hellish dream sequence and realizing everything she thought she knew about the demon was wrong--and that he's even worse.

"Immortals" by Fallout Boy A brief moment where Agent Timmons and Jane get to bond over their seeming victory.

"Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons The confrontation between Jane and the Big Wolf is a serious underdeer contest of woman vs. guess. My money is Jane.

"This is War" by 30 Seconds to Mars A nice finale for the book as it shows Jane's transformation from being a meek young woman to the ass kicking protector of Bright Falls.
